Have you ever wondered what an enclosed photo booth is? In this post, we will cover the different options of enclosed photo booth for events and some of the nuance involved with them.
What are the different types of photo booths?
There are many different styles of photo booths today, from traditional booths to 360 video booths, and even glam bots. Photo Booth is really an umbrella term used to describe a photo or video experience. For this post we are going to stick to traditional photo booths, which offer “Open Air” or “Enclosed”, styles, and specifically, we will dive into the different options for an enclosed photo booth.
What is an open air Photo Booth?
An open air photo booth is any photo booth that consists of a backdrop and camera that do not have an enclosure around them. These booths are the most flexible on their layout and are the most common type of photo booth to see at events. They also offer a variety of backdrop options because it is really a photo station, with a backdrop, so the backdrop can be almost anything. Here’s an example of an open air booth.

What is an enclosed photo booth?
An enclosed photo booth, as you can imagine is a photo booth with an enclosure (mind blown right??). Enclosed photo booths can come in many different forms:
- Drape-Style Enclosed Photo Booth
- Tent-Style Enclosed Photo Booth
- Inflatable Style Enclosed Photo Booth
- “Permanent” Style Enclosed Photo Booth
- Curtain Style Enclosed Photo Booth
At IT’S LIT Weddings and events, we currently offer the first two options, (Drape style and tent style enclosed photo booth) in a special enclosed booth package (you must ask us for this package, as it is not listed on our site).
Tent-Style Enclosed Photo Booth
Here’s a photo of a tent style enclosure, tent style enclosures can be used with a variety of booth technologies, but are best suited with the boxy, older-style, photo booth that can be seen in the right of the image. We refer to this booth as the DSLR booth internally, and ours runs on an older software platform that does not have the full range of social media sharing that our newer booths offer, however, it still has prints, and the ability to share photos via email.

Drape Style Enclosed Photo Booth
A drape style enclosed photo booth is a more modern way to provide a photo booth enclosure. This style combines the backdrop flexibility of an open air style booth, with the privacy of an enclosed photo booth. This style of booth is best used with an open air booth camera station, but can be used with DSLR too. We offer our drape style enclosure with either black exterior drape, or white exterior drape. Drape style enclosures also offer more flexibility in the size of the enclosure allowing up to a 10’x10′ interior for the photo booth.
Unfortunately we don’t have any web quality photos of this style of booth at this time.
Things to keep in mind for enclosed photo booths
Enclosed photo booths are great because they offer privacy, but they aren’t great when privacy can cause issues, the prime example of this is a school dance. At IT’S LIT Weddings & Events, we recommend that schools do not use enclosed booths for their dances. Enclosed booth’s can make guests more rowdy in the booth and more… confident… but usually, this isn’t much of a problem unless inappropriate photos from guests may be a concern to you.
