ITS LIT was conceptualized in 2019, when founder, Melanie Jackson, built 4 marquee letters by hand to spell out “LOVE” for her wedding. These are now our 3.5ft marquee love letters. In her own words, “ITS LIT was born out of a necessity to DIY my entire wedding in September 2019. I had my heart set on these gorgeous 4 ft tall Marquee Letters. Like most things, I love a good challenge and got right to work creating my first set of LOVE marquee letters that ended up being the hit of the night and the “it” thing that still has people talking to this day.” Learn about all our rentals at the Rentals Page.
She then realized she could bring the same happiness and “it” factor to others events. Just like that she created the first marquee letter rental company in Rhode Island! All our Marquee Letters have been built by hand, right here in Rhode Island by Melanie, her husband Chris, and current owner Alex. MAKING DREAMS COME TRUE: ITS LIT RI
Hi! My name is Alex and I am the current owner of ITS LIT Weddings & Events, formerly known as ITS LIT RI. Before I get into the how and why I took over the company in December of 2021, I would like to first introduce myself: I have been a mobile DJ since starting all the way back in 2011, when I was 11 years old, as I grew up (literally) my business did too, and I quickly found myself doing mostly weddings.
When I saw ITS LIT for sale, I was instantly intrigued, I already had experiences with the nuances of rentals from a brand I started called EPR Team, which is now our production services team, and had experiences with weddings from my DJ Business, DJ Alex Brown Entertainment. I had also recently graduated college from Johnson & Wales University, and decided to be a full time business owner. Due to that leap of faith, I was looking for a way to expand my business, and generate a more secure, full time income, I had done weddings & events where Melanie, the founder, provided letters and therefore had some familiarity with the concept of Marquee Letter Rentals.
In short, owning and operating a business has always been a dream and passion of mine, ITS LIT adds to both those areas and allows me to continue to be a full time business owner.

A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER
Founder and former owner: Mel here! I wanted to send The biggest heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported me as I built this business. Starting a biz at the onset of the pandemic was no small feat and it wouldn’t have been possible or successful without this wonderful community of clients, vendors, family & friends. My heart is so full looking back at all we’ve accomplished and I know this is just the beginning for ITS LIT.
With that, I want to let you know that I am stepping away to pursue a new adventure and most excitingly, ITS LIT has a new owner [Alex]. When I started to talk to potential buyers, I knew Alex saw the same spark and possibility in ITS LIT RI. I felt so much comfort in knowing this business would be in great hands & live on and continue to thrive with Alex at the helm. Alex has fully taken over as of December 3rd and all bookings have been successfully transitioned.
Thank you again for your support over the past 2 years & your continued support as ITS LIT enters a new chapter with Alex. I cannot wait to see ITS LIT RI light it up for years to come !

Recent Updates
After rapid expansion of both businesses from around 100 events combined in 2021, to nearly 300 events combined in 2023, Alex decided to make his DJ brand a part of IT’S LIT as his manager, so he can continue to focus on delivering great experiences for his clients. Most people already know that Alex does a lot of different services and he has grown ITS LIT into a company that offers all those services.
IT’S LIT Brands LLC was established in 2024 to change the structure of the business back to an LLC, and provide certain tax advantages as the company grows. IT’S LIT Brands LLC took over the previous DBA/sole proprietorship name “DJAB Entertainment” which owned the rights to IT’S LIT as well as DJ Alex Brown entertainment.
DJAB Entertainment was founded in 2011, after Alex took the DJ Name “DJAB” standing for disc jockey Alex Brown. Over many iterations and slight name changes, DJAB Entertainment came to represent the company that managed DJ Alex Brown and now that is replaced by IT’S LIT Brands LLC.
IT’S LIT RI rebranded in August 2024 to become IT’S LIT Weddings and Events in a continued effort to increase awareness of all the services we offer and to continue merging services over to a single brand providing all these services, and make things simple for our customers.
Around the time of this rebrand, our trademark for the name IT’S LIT was registered, meaning we now have intellectual property rights to use the name IT’S LIT®, for the services we provide!
